Script execution via unrestricted bookmark URI scheme
Published Feb 18, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Cerebrate 1.4 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute script through a crafted bookmark URL. The bookmark templates place a stored URL in an href attribute after HTML escaping but do not restrict its scheme, leaving a javascript URI executable when selected. Exploitation requires a user to activate the crafted bookmark; the script then runs in the Cerebrate origin and can read or modify browser-accessible data.
