Arbitrary file write via upload path traversal
Published Feb 18, 2022 · Updated Sep 16, 2024
Path traversal in Cesanta Mongoose before 7.6 allows remote attackers to write files outside the configured upload directory. mg_http_upload joins the name query parameter directly to the caller-supplied directory and passes the path to fopen without removing parent-directory segments. The application must expose an HTTP handler that invokes this helper; writes remain limited to locations writable by the server process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
