SYSTEM code execution via undisclosed dangerous function
Published Mar 7, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Local privilege escalation in Proofpoint Insider Threat Management Agent for Windows before 7.12.1 allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM. The agent relies on an inherently dangerous function, but Proofpoint has not disclosed the function name, attacker-controlled input, or unsafe operation. An unprivileged local Windows account is required, and successful exploitation grants SYSTEM-level code execution.
