CVE-2022-25293Network attack vector

Authenticated code execution via malicious firmware image

Published Feb 24, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Stack-based buffer overflow in WatchGuard Fireware OS 12.0 through 12.7.2_Update1 allows remote authenticated users to execute code. During a firmware update, a systemd process handles attacker-controlled upgrade-image data without enforcing the destination stack buffer's bounds. Reaching the flaw requires high-privilege access to initiate an update, and successful exploitation grants code execution on the appliance.
