Unauthenticated remote code execution via SID bypass
Published Apr 18, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Authentication bypass in ThinVNC 1.0b1 allows remote attackers to execute code via the unauthenticated web command interface. The /cmd?cmd=connect endpoint issues a valid SID without authentication, and subsequent start, keyboard, mouse, and clipboard commands control the Windows desktop. Any network access to the exposed service is sufficient; no account or user interaction is required, and successful control can run commands as the service context.
