CVE-2022-2521Public exploit

Process crash via incompatible crop options

Published Aug 31, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Invalid pointer release in LibTIFF 4.4.0rc1 allows context-dependent attackers to crash tiffcrop with a crafted TIFF file. Combining the -S option with mutually exclusive crop-selection options leaves tiffcrop cleanup state invalid, so TIFFClose frees an invalid pointer. Execution requires processing attacker-controlled input with the incompatible options; the demonstrated consequence is tiffcrop process termination.
