CVE-2022-25153Public exploit

SYSTEM privilege escalation via OpenSSL configuration hijack

Published Jun 8, 2022 · Updated Mar 11, 2025

Local privilege escalation in ITarian Endpoint Manager Communication Client before 6.43.41148.21120 allows local users to gain SYSTEM access. SYSTEM-level RmmService.exe and ITSMService.exe look for openssl.cnf in a nonexistent, user-creatable build directory and honor its engine directives. Placing a crafted configuration and DLL there causes either service to load attacker code as SYSTEM after a restart or its next lookup.
