CVE-2022-2502Network attack vector

Remote reboot via malformed IEC 60870-5-104 message

Published Jul 26, 2023 · Updated Mar 5, 2025

Improper input validation in Hitachi Energy RTU500 Series firmware 13.3.1 and 13.3.2 allows remote attackers to reboot the CMU. The HCI IEC 60870-5-104 function processes a specially crafted message without adequate input validation, causing an internal buffer overflow. Exploitation requires IEC 62351-5 support to be configured and the separately licensed Advanced security feature to be present.
