Information exposure via undocumented mirror-clone refs
Published Feb 11, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Information exposure in Git through 2.35.1 allows remote attackers to retrieve deleted repository content through mirror clones. The --mirror mode maps every remote ref into the local repository, retaining objects reachable from refs that ordinary clones omit and that audits can therefore miss. The repository must expose those refs and retain the objects; Git maintainers and other parties dispute this as intended behavior rather than a defect.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
