CVE-2022-24913

Temporary-file disclosure via permissive file creation

Published Jan 12, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2025

Insecure temporary-file creation in FasterXML Java Merge Sort before 1.1.0 allows local users to read temporary sort data. StdTempFileProvider.provide() passes its prefix and suffix to File.createTempFile(), which creates intermediate files without restrictive POSIX permissions. A local low-privileged user must access the host while a large sort creates intermediate files; the flaw exposes file contents without altering data or interrupting service.
