Host file access via unrestricted File methods
Published May 2, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Velocity sandboxing in XWiki Commons 2.3 through 12.6.6 and 12.7-rc-1 through 12.10.2 allows remote authenticated users to read or write host files. SecureIntrospector falls back to generic permission checks for java.io.File objects, allowing mutating File methods instead of enforcing a restricted method allowlist. Exploitation requires XWiki Script rights and an XWiki API that returns a File object; successful scripts can access files available to the server process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
