CVE-2022-24882Network attack vector

Unauthenticated server access via empty NTLM password

Published Apr 26, 2022 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

Improper authentication in FreeRDP before 2.7.0 allows remote attackers to bypass NTLM login on RDP servers with an empty password. The server-side NTLM authentication state machine continues the exchange when the supplied password has zero length instead of returning a logon failure. Only FreeRDP-based RDP server implementations are exposed; RDP clients are unaffected, and successful exploitation grants the account's remote-session access.
