Private user data disclosure via whole-object serialization
Published Apr 26, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Information disclosure in Discourse Assign before 1.0.1 allows remote authenticated users to read private user and group data via bookmarks. The UserBookmarkSerializer places entire User or Group objects in assignment bookmark responses instead of limiting the serialized assignee fields. Assignment visibility is staff-only by default, but sites exposing assignment features more broadly disclose the data to any account allowed to view assignments.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
