Server crash via incorrect GOAWAY state handling
Published Mar 25, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Reachable assertion in gRPC Swift before 1.7.2 allows remote attackers to crash a server with a crafted HTTP/2 GOAWAY sequence. The GRPCIdleHandlerStateMachine.streamCreated path assumes every quiescing connection is a locally initiated client and enforces that assumption with precondition checks instead of accepting a peer-initiated server state. No authentication or user interaction is required; the crash drops all in-flight connections and requests.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
