Signature forgery via lenient DigestInfo validation
Published Mar 18, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Improper RSA signature verification in Digital Bazaar Forge before 1.3.0 allows remote attackers to forge signatures with crafted data. The RSA verifier accepts malformed PKCS#1 v1.5 DigestInfo ASN.1 because it does not fully validate the digestAlgorithm structure, leaving encoded-message bytes unchecked. Exploitation requires a low-public-exponent key and lets an unauthenticated attacker make altered content pass signature verification.
