Expired-account access via omitted PAM account check
Published Mar 9, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Authentication bypass in foxcpp Maddy Mail Server before 0.5.4 allows remote attackers with expired PAM credentials to access mail services. The auth.pam helper validates the password but omits pam_acct_mgmt, so PAM account and password-expiration policy is never enforced. The flaw is reachable only when auth.pam is configured and grants the expired account the same mailbox and submission access as an active account.
