Remote code execution via table-column integer overflow
Published Mar 3, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Integer overflow in GitHub cmark-gfm before 0.28.3.gfm.21 and 0.29.0.gfm.0 through 0.29.0.gfm.2 allows attackers to execute code. The row_from_string function increments a 16-bit column count past its limit while retaining the full cell list, causing an undersized alignment allocation and out-of-bounds heap writes. Remote code execution requires an application to render attacker-controlled Markdown with the table extension enabled; other contexts can expose memory or corrupt the parser process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
