Unauthorized host-data disclosure via stale service permissions
Published Mar 8, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Incorrect authorization in Icinga Web 2 before 2.8.6 and 2.9.0 through 2.9.5 allows remote authenticated users to read restricted host data. The monitoring backend's IDO queries join host authorization through service objects without consistently separating host and service object types, preserving implicit host visibility after services are decommissioned. Exposure requires the IDO writer, service-custom-variable role restrictions, and decommissioned services; disclosed content includes hosts, contacts, events, comments, downtimes, and groups.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
