CVE-2022-24713Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Service interruption via unbounded empty-expression compilation

Published Mar 8, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025

Regular expression denial of service in Rust regex 1.5.4 and earlier allows remote attackers to interrupt services via crafted regexes. The compiler expands huge repetitions of empty subexpressions without charging them to its size limit, consuming CPU until compilation finishes. Only applications that compile attacker-controlled regexes are exposed; matching untrusted input against trusted regexes is unaffected.
