Remote code execution via unfiltered plugin description
Published Feb 8, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Remote code execution in HYBBS2 2.3.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute PHP code through a crafted plugin description. Admin.php places the description directly into plugin configuration and writes it to conf.php without filtering, so PHP syntax in that field becomes executable server code. Reachability requires access to the management background's plugin-creation function, and successful exploitation grants code execution with the web server's permissions.
