Root code execution via oversized Privet token
Published Mar 28, 2023 · Updated Feb 19, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in the Privet API in Canon Color imageCLASS MF644Cdw 10.02 allows network-adjacent attackers to execute root code. ntpv_isXPrivetTokenValid passes an attacker-controlled X-Privet-Token to a Base64 decoder that writes into a 256-byte stack buffer without a bounds argument. An unauthenticated POST to /privet/register reaches the decoder; successful exploitation runs code as root and can also reboot the printer.
