Comment-spam bypass via forged client IP
Published Feb 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Missing authorization in waline 1.6.1 allows remote attackers to submit comments while forging the source IP via X-Forwarded-For. The request handling path trusts attacker-controlled X-Forwarded-For and related proxy headers as the client address without validating proxy context. Unauthenticated network access is sufficient; forged addresses can bypass IP-based comment-rate limits and obscure sender attribution, enabling spam.
