Credential cloning via user-controlled OTP secret registration
Published May 11, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Incorrect authorization in YubiKey OTP allows remote authenticated users to register a copied secret with Yubico's validation server. The claim concerns a token owner reprogramming the OTP slot with an imported secret and uploading that configuration while retaining the same secret elsewhere. Control of the token configuration and server enrollment is required, and Yubico disputes that retaining a user-supplied secret constitutes a vulnerability.
