Root command execution via unchecked REST parameters
Published Feb 6, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
OS command injection in the REST API of StarWind SAN & NAS 0.2 build 1633 allows remote attackers to execute commands as root. A virtual-disk management command fails to validate request parameters and inserts some values directly into a Bash script. Non-root user access is sufficient to reach the vulnerable command, and injected commands execute with root privileges.
