SYSTEM code execution via PowerShell module hijacking
Published Apr 15, 2022 · Updated Jan 2, 2025
Privilege escalation in Microsoft Configuration Manager 2103 allows local users to execute arbitrary PowerShell as SYSTEM. On a Connected Cache distribution point, SetDrivesToHealthy.ps1 imports webAdministration from a user-writable Tasks subtree before the normal module path. Connected Cache must be enabled, and a low-privileged local account can plant a module that the scheduled script loads every 60 seconds with SYSTEM rights.
