Code execution via EMF record type confusion
Published Mar 9, 2022 · Updated Jul 8, 2025
Type confusion in Microsoft Office Visio allows remote attackers to execute code through a crafted EMF image opened by a user. The EMR_COMMENT_EMFPLUS record parser fails to validate user-supplied data before treating it as an expected object type. Exploitation requires a user to visit a malicious page or open a malicious file, and resulting code runs in the current Visio process.
