SMM code execution via unchecked USBRT function index
Published Mar 11, 2022 · Updated Sep 17, 2024
Improper input validation in Dell Client Platform BIOS allows local users with ring-0 access to execute arbitrary code in SMM via an SMI. The USBRT software-SMI handler uses an attacker-controlled SubfuncIndex to index the seven-entry gCoreProcTable without checking that the index is below seven, then passes the resulting pointer to Invoke. Exploitation requires privileged local code execution and crosses from ring 0 into ring -2, where code can bypass SPI-flash protections and persist in firmware.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
