Application hang via backtracking color regex
Published Sep 30, 2022 · Updated May 20, 2025
Regular expression denial of service in React Native Reanimated before 3.0.0-rc.1 allows remote attackers to interrupt applications. The Colors.ts parser applies an ambiguous numeric regex to attacker-controlled color strings, causing catastrophic backtracking and excessive CPU use. Reachability depends on an application passing remotely supplied color values into the parser; successful exploitation hangs the affected application without reading or modifying data.
