CVE-2022-24350

Firmware memory tampering via unchecked output size

Published Apr 12, 2023 · Updated Mar 19, 2025

Buffer overflow in IhisiSmm in Insyde InsydeH2O kernel 5.0 through 5.5 allows local users to corrupt adjacent command-buffer data. IHISI function 0x17 checks that the output buffer begins inside the command buffer, but GetFlashTable writes into it before DataSize is validated, allowing the write to pass the buffer end. Reaching the software SMI path requires local high privileges, and successful exploitation tampers with firmware-managed memory rather than disclosing data or interrupting service.
