Sensitive file disclosure via Helm path confusion
Published Feb 4, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Path traversal in Argo CD before 2.1.9 and 2.2.0 through 2.2.3 allows remote authenticated users to read repo-server files. The helmTemplate path check treats an absolute valueFiles path as a URI, skips repository-root enforcement, and also follows crafted symlinks outside that root. Application create or update permission plus knowledge or a guess of a valid YAML path is required; Helm consumes the file and can expose its secrets through rendered output or verbose errors.
