Local code execution via pre-trust project processing
Published Feb 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Code execution in JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA before 2021.2.4 allows attackers to run local code when a user opens a crafted project. The project-opening workflow processed project-controlled content before the Trusted Project decision, but JetBrains has not disclosed which of the four corrected handlers performed the unsafe operation. Opening an untrusted project is required; resulting code runs with the IDE user's privileges and can affect that user's data and development environment.
