CVE-2022-24302Network attack vector

Private-key disclosure via delayed file permission change

Published Mar 17, 2022 · Updated Dec 16, 2025

Race condition in Paramiko before 2.10.1 allows attackers to read private keys while newly created files retain permissive default modes. PKey.write_private_key_file created each private-key file before applying mode 0600, leaving its contents exposed under the process's default permissions. Exploitation requires knowledge of the target path and winning the race before chmod; the bounded consequence is unauthorized reading of a newly written private key.
