Authenticated server crash via $external request validation
Published Apr 21, 2022 · Updated Sep 16, 2024
Reachable assertion in MongoDB Server 5.0 through 5.0.6 allows remote authenticated users to crash mongod via crafted commands. The command dispatcher incorrectly validates a request against the $external database and reaches an invariant assertion instead of rejecting it. A valid authenticated session is required, and successful exploitation terminates the database server and interrupts service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
