CVE-2022-24196Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Application crash via unchecked PDF stream length

Published Feb 1, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Resource exhaustion in iText 7 Core for Java allows attackers to crash PDF-processing applications via a crafted PDF file. PdfReader.checkPdfStreamLength can leave an invalid stream length unchanged when an endstream marker is missing, and readStreamBytesRaw then allocates a byte array of that size. The flaw affects 7.1.17 and earlier and releases before 7.2.2; exploitation requires processing the supplied PDF and only process availability is lost.
