Extension downloads and uploads via devtools API injection
Published Mar 17, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Script injection in NAVER Whale Browser before 3.12.129.46 allows attackers to alter the extension store page through developer tools. The devtools.inspectedWindow API lets an extension inject arbitrary JavaScript into the privileged extension-store page without enforcing the intended privilege boundary. A user must install the attacker's extension and open developer tools; the injected script can cause extension downloads and uploads.
