CVE-2022-24065Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Remote code execution via Mercurial checkout option injection

Published Jun 3, 2022 · Updated Sep 17, 2024

OS command injection in Cookiecutter before 2.1.1 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands through a crafted Mercurial checkout value. The clone function in cookiecutter/vcs.py passed the checkout value to hg checkout without an option terminator, allowing Mercurial configuration flags to define and invoke a command alias. Exploitation requires a Python integration to pass attacker-controlled checkout data while cloning a Mercurial template, and commands run with that process's privileges.
