Authenticated service-account code execution via SRCDEF format string
Published Feb 18, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Format-string injection in MariaDB Server 10.6.5 allows local users to execute code as the service account through crafted CONNECT SQL. In storage/connect/myconn.cpp, SrcColumns passes the CONNECT table's user-controlled SRCDEF value directly to sprintf as its format argument. Exploitation requires authenticated SQL access and a crafted CONNECT table definition; success crosses from the database user to the MariaDB service account.
