CVE-2022-24048

Privilege escalation via CONNECT stack buffer overflow

Published Feb 18, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Stack-based buffer overflow in MariaDB Server 10.6.5 allows local users to execute arbitrary code as the service account via SQL queries. CONNECT query-processing paths use unbounded formatting operations to place user-supplied table metadata into the fixed-size g->Message buffer. An authenticated database account with permission to issue the crafted CONNECT table query is required; successful exploitation gains service-account privileges.
