CVE-2022-24040Network attack vector

Authenticated service interruption via unbounded PBKDF2 cost

Published May 10, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Uncontrolled resource consumption in Siemens Desigo PXC and DXR firmware allows remote authenticated users to interrupt controller service. During account creation or update, the web application accepts a PBKDF2 derived-key cost factor without enforcing an upper bound. A user with profile-access privilege can assign an exceptionally expensive cost to an account and trigger sustained CPU consumption by attempting to log in to that account.
