SMM privilege escalation via NvmExpressDxe out-of-bounds write
Published Feb 3, 2022 · Updated Aug 11, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in InsydeH2O NvmExpressDxe 5.1 through 5.5 allows local users with high privileges to escalate into SMM. The driver writes fixed or predictable data outside its intended bounds into protected SMRAM during System Management Mode handling. Exploitation requires the ability to run untrusted code with high privileges on an affected Siemens industrial system and grants firmware-level SMM execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
