SMM privilege escalation via out-of-bounds SMRAM write
Published Feb 3, 2022 · Updated Aug 11, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in AhciBusDxe in InsydeH2O kernels 5.1 through 5.5 allows local users to escalate privileges to SMM. The driver permits fixed or predictable attacker-directed data to be written outside a memory boundary into protected SMRAM. Local code execution is required; successful exploitation can corrupt firmware memory and take control of System Management Mode.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
