Admin-level stored XSS via unescaped error message
Published Aug 8, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Comments Extra Fields For Post,Pages and CPT before 4.1 allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through the plugin. The Field Error Message setting is stored and rendered without sufficient input sanitization or output escaping, allowing attacker-controlled web script to persist in pages. Exploitation requires administrative-level access, and the issue is relevant when unfiltered_html is disabled or on multisite installations; visiting an affected page executes the injected script in a viewer’s browser.
