CVE-2022-23946Public exploit

Code execution via unbounded GCodeNumber digit copy

Published Feb 4, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025

Stack buffer overflow in KiCad EDA 6.0.1 Gerber Viewer allows attackers to execute code by opening a crafted Gerber or Excellon file. The GCodeNumber parser copies every numeric character into a 1,024-byte stack buffer without checking the destination bound, then appends a terminator beyond it. A user must open the malicious file; resulting code runs in the KiCad process context.
