CVE-2022-23935

Command execution via pipe-suffixed filenames

Published Jan 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Command injection in ExifTool before 12.38 allows attackers to execute operating-system commands through a pipe-suffixed filename. The Image::ExifTool file-opening path interprets a filename ending in a pipe as a Perl piped-open command instead of treating it solely as a file path. Exploitation requires an application or user to pass an attacker-controlled filename to the library, and commands run with the ExifTool process's privileges.
