SMM code execution via undersized communication buffer
Published Mar 11, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Heap buffer overflow in the child SW SMI handler in HP PC BIOS before 02.07.10 allows local users to execute code in SMM. The handler passes an attacker-controlled BufferSize to GetCopy, then sub_2288 writes pointers at fixed 16- and 24-byte offsets beyond undersized heap allocations. Exploitation requires preexisting arbitrary code execution during DXE; the handler unregisters before the operating system can reach it.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
