SMM code execution via undersized communication buffer

Heap buffer overflow in HP PC BIOS before 02.07.10 allows local users with kernel privileges to execute arbitrary code in SMM. The child software-SMI handler allocates a copy using an unvalidated communication-buffer size, then writes a status value beyond allocations smaller than 24 bytes. Exploitation requires ring-0 privileges and a crafted communication buffer followed by an SMI trigger, enabling firmware-level persistence and bypass of SMM flash protections.
