CVE-2022-2390

Protected provider access via mutable notification PendingIntent

Published Aug 12, 2022 · Updated Apr 21, 2025

Improper PendingIntent mutability in Google Play services SDK before 18.0.2 allows local users to access protected content providers. The SDK passes mutable PendingIntent objects to Android's notification service, allowing a local malicious app to alter the encapsulated intent and invoke non-exported providers or providers authorized to the victim app. Exploitation requires local privileges and user interaction, and resulting access is bounded by the victim app's provider permissions.
