CVE-2022-23830

Guest memory integrity loss via mutable SMM configuration

Published Nov 14, 2023 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Improper SMM configuration protection in AMD EPYC processors allows local users to alter SNP guest memory integrity. When Secure Nested Paging is enabled, the SMM configuration remains mutable instead of being locked; AMD has not disclosed the affected setting or write path. Exploitation requires local high privileges and high-complexity conditions, and the documented consequence is limited modification of guest memory.
