Authenticated arbitrary email via unchecked AJAX handler
Published Aug 22, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Missing authorization in Directorist before 7.3.0 allows remote authenticated users to send arbitrary email through the WordPress site. The send_announcement() function exposes the atbdp_send_announcement AJAX action without capability or CSRF checks and passes attacker-selected recipient, subject, and message values into the site's mail flow. Any logged-in account, including a Subscriber, can cause the site to deliver attacker-composed messages that appear to originate from the blog.
