CVE-2022-23677Network attack vector

Remote code execution via faulty NanoSSL error cleanup

Published May 10, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Heap overflow in affected ArubaOS-Switch releases allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code through unauthenticated TLS interfaces. The firmware's NanoSSL glue logic fails to perform required cleanup after TLS connection errors, corrupting heap memory with attacker-controlled data. Exploitation requires access to a captive portal before authentication or a man-in-the-middle position on a RADIUS connection, and successful exploitation grants control of the switch.
